Sewing Companion Case

I couldn't resist this little Sewing Companion Case when I came across it, whilst browsing Pinterest

Sorry my photography isn't the best!

I was was also very happy to find it is a one piece pattern, I love uncomplicated patterns!  I'd bought the Balloon fabric on a trip to a craft show at the NEC in Birmingham over a year ago, and teamed it with the pale blue polkadot fabric, which I thought made an excellent contrast.

Once the 2 fabric pieces, plus some soft iron on interfacing, are sewn together and turned out the right way, some nifty folds form the pockets.

You can (just) see the stitching which holds it all in place on the back.

In my haste to make this, I forgot to check that my needle work scissors would actually fit in it. And this project was sadly left unfinished for some time. So my top tip is to measure and adjust the size of the pattern to your scissors before you start. The instructions say 4" Scissors should fit, mine are 5".

However, I loved this little Sewing Case and wanted to use it, so I found it is perfect for my Nail Scissors and clippers, the emery board is a little long, but I'm sure I can find a suitably sized one. So, I finished this project with an old fashion popper, and it now sits in my work box, where I can find it when I need a manicure!

A Pencil Case

The night before my daugher was about to start her new school, she decided she wanted a new pencil case... So, not wanting to disappoint her I told her to have a rummage in my stash and find some material. She pulled out a leg off a pair of old black jeans and some red gingham. She wanted her name on it.

Here is the result....

We used a bit of non sew bond-a-web to apply the letters, a good opportunity to find out how it holds up against day to day use. I made her, draw and cut them out. I left it unlined for quickness, sewed in the zip, and added a bit of the gingham to the end of the zip.

A few weeks in and the pencil case is holding up to daily use, however the bond-a-web is starting to peel up in places, so I might add a few stitches around the edges

A Crayon Roll At Long Last!

For a long time now, I have been wanting to make a Crayon Roll. I had a quick peek yesterday at the Sewing Thread on MSE and there was another photo of one someone had made... that was it... I picked out some material from my huge pile and got to work... I had to go to Mr T's for something so picked up some crayons whilst there and voila... my first crayon roll... very quick and easy to make as everyone says in there posts and blogs... I followed the tutorial on this Blog which was nice and clear.

I just may make a few more of these for my next craft stall...

A Fete and A Few More Makes

Sorry, I haven't posted for ages, but I have made loads... I had a craft stall at a school fete the other week and sold a few bits and pieces, some items were old stock I had made before, but I had spent 2 weeks making stuff for this fete. I think I thought it was going to be good. The new items I made were some larger hanging hearts. I main aim is to make things from fabric I already have, but I went to John Lewis to see if I could get some of the white fabric I use for my hanging Tooth Fairy Pillows! I found some in the remnant bin and whilst rummaging I found some lovely green gingham style fabric and was immediately inspired to make the larger hearts in it.

I made this heart from some lovely fabric I was sent in a fabric swap
organised by the MSE ladies.

I had also made 2 large hearts, one in red gingham with an applique pink flower on it and a green striped one with a small red heart appliqued on it, both of these sold at the fete, so I haven't got a picture. I will probably make some more though and will make sure I take a picture.

I made some more of the felt birdies too...

Embroidered Felt Birdies

Whilst browsing the internet I've often come across Embroidered Felt Birds, so I decided to make my own. So I drew a template and made the first one... of course being me, I decided the first one wasn't quite right, so the second one is slight altered... I've left the top of the wing un-attached from the body so it forms a pocket... might put a note or little something in there???
I'm still working on a few design ideas, with scraps of felt I've got, so will post some more pics soon!

Sarubobo Babies

I came across this tutorial whilst looking for ideas http://mairuru.blogspot.com/2009/05/how-to-make-sarubobo-plush.html. I have adapted the pattern to make it my own... although I;m sure there'll be similar out there. I have added faces to mine, so they're not traditional.

It took me all day just to make 4 of these. So although they are small and cute, they are quite time consuming as they are hand stitched thoughout.

I have added key chains to them, to make them saleable at the craft fairs I attend. (Not sold any yet).

Another Crafty Make!

It was raining yesterday and I couldn't do want I wanted to do, so I had another go at the Buttercup Bag. This time I enlarged the pattern and altered it so I could add a zip instead of a magnetic clasp.

I had a rumage in my fabric stash and came up with some denim and some stripy cotton drill. And some pretty material for the lining.

I am pretty pleased with the result!

I'm going to add a couple of buttons to the Denim strip for decoration.

View from the top, showing the zip and twee lining!

Tooth Fairy Pillows

These are a bit of a work in progress... I have been toying with making these for a while an bought some materials as detailed in an earlier blog.

I've made a few, making changes and alterations as I go. The design is my own and now finalised and I have put a couple in my Misi shop to guage interest.

Here is a couple of piccies....

Another Crafty Morning!

I decided to make the shopping bag I was going to make the other day. I may give this one to Mother In Law too, as she was really pleased with the Buttercup Bag! It will make a nice matching set!

A Craft Morning

At last I've had a chance to sit down and make something. I wanted to make a bag, and was just going to make a simple tote/shopping bag. However, it was mother in laws birthday yesterday (yes I forgot!), so I thought I'd make her the Buttercup Bag, which has been discussed and made by some of the ladies on the sewing thread on moneysavingexpert.com. Pattern courtesy of Made By Rae, http://www.made-by-rae.com/2009/02/free-buttercup-bag-sewing-pattern.html I forgot to take photos initially, but took a couple when I was part way through.
Made from some fabric I bought at Dunelm Mill, it was an end of roll piece for £1.99. I lined it with some cream satin fabric which was left over from my wedding dress. And the 2 buttons are from a huge tin of buttons my sister in law gave me.
Lining halves made with magnetic clasp and pocket sewn in place. Main fabric pinned ready to sew.

Finished bag waiting for handle.

Completely finished.

Shopping For Craft Fabric (My first crafty post!)

I had a trip out today to a local town specifically to visit the Fabric Shop there. Its a great shop which although it has a small shop front, its a bit like the tardis, its huge inside. It sells everything from Craft and dress material to Furnishing and Curtain Fabrics as well as all the haberdashery items you could every want...

I managed to find just what I wanted...

This fabric bought off the roll is for a specific project I have in mind, more of which I will reveal later...

This is a Fat Quarter Pack which was £3.99, I love the first two fabrics. I haven't got any plans for them yet, but I'm sure I can come up with something.

This last set of fabrics was from a bargin bin of fabric packs for 50p each. I bought one to see what was in it. The polka dot fabric is double layered held together with the spots. The red is a sparkly organza. The brown is linen type and the white is a piece of netting.

Lots to be getting on with I think!
